We are sending notifications to several members who will be impacted by upcoming routing changes. The changes will be made on some of the circuits that provide Internet connections for the coop servers. For certain IP ranges the traffic is currently being routed via static routes (a single path) to the data center locations. These static routes will be changing. To avoid any potential for downtime as the changes are made with upstream providers we have allocated IP addresses that can be replaced on the accounts in advance. There is an additional benefit to the new IP ranges that are in use as they are routed via multiple circuits which provide additional failover and capacity.

  • We recommend the IP changes take place during low traffic periods for the domains on the account. When the change is made there will be a brief window where the sites may not be accessible if recently accessed. This can be from minutes to hours. Updating on weekends and overnight typically has the lowest impact.
  • If domain names are configured with webhosting.coop nameservers we can make the change on your behalf.
    • Domains using ns11.webhosting.coop ns12.webhosting.coop or any other ns##.webhosting.coop record we can update.
  • If the domain names use external nameservers (registrar defaults or custom nameservers not under our control) we will need to coordinate the IP change.
    • These would include domains that have domaincontrol (Godaddy), registrar-servers (Namecheap), or other third party name servers

We will schedule the IP changes based on requested time and the members respective time zone. If no time zone is specified Central time zone is defaulted. If you are updating your own DNS records with a third party we will confirm the new IP from a support request. You will want to update the remote Address (A) records at or around the same time we modify the account IP addresses. There will not be a need to revert the changes as the new IP addresses can be used long term.

If there are any questions please open a support request from the member dashboard and we will be glad to assist!
